Discover the cultural landmarks of Hanoi, the limestone seascapes of Halong Bay and the peaceful countryside of Ninh Binh on this 5-day Northern Vietnam itinerary. With a Halong day cruise rather than an overnight stay, the programme is ideal for travellers seeking varied sightseeing while remaining based in Hanoi.

Explore Hanoi’s Ho Chi Minh Complex, One Pillar Pagoda, Quan Thanh Temple, Tran Quoc Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem Lake and Old Quarter. Cruise through Halong Bay’s emerald waters, passing limestone formations and visiting either Thien Cung Cave or Sung Sot Cave.

The journey continues to Ninh Binh, where the ancient temples of Hoa Lu and a bamboo boat ride through Tam Coc’s Three Caves offer a quieter contrast to the city and the bay.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1Day 1: Malaysia – Hanoi Arrival

Overnight in Hanoi

Arrive at Noi Bai International Airport and meet the driver for transfer to the hotel.

Standard check-in time is from 2:00 PM. Early check-in is subject to hotel availability and confirmation on arrival. The driver will wait for a maximum of one hour after the arrival flight.

The remainder of the day is free for leisure activities or optional tours. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2Day 2: Hanoi Full-Day City Tour (B/L)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Overnight in Hanoi

After breakfast, depart at approximately 8:30 AM for a full-day Hanoi city tour.

Visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Museum, followed by Ho Chi Minh’s stilt house. Continue to the One Pillar Pagoda, built in 1049 by King Ly Thai To.

Visit Quan Thanh Temple and Tran Quoc Pagoda on West Lake, one of the oldest pagodas in Vietnam.

After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to the Temple of Literature and Quoc Tu Giam, Vietnam’s first university, established in 1070.

Walk around Hoan Kiem Lake and visit Ngoc Son Temple. Conclude the tour with a coach ride through Hanoi Old Quarter and free time for shopping.

Day 3Day 3: Hanoi – Halong Day Cruise – Hanoi (B/L)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Overnight in Hanoi

After breakfast, depart at approximately 7:30 AM for Halong City. Enjoy the scenic drive of around three and a half hours.

On arrival, have lunch before joining a four-hour boat cruise through Halong Bay. Sail among emerald waters, limestone outcrops and long corridors of striking karst scenery.

Visit either Thien Cung Cave or Sung Sot Cave, according to the day’s operating route.

Return to Halong City, where the minibus will be waiting for the transfer back to Hanoi. Arrive at approximately 8:30 PM and stay overnight in Hanoi.

Day 4Day 4: Hanoi – Tam Coc, Ninh Binh – Hanoi (B/L)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Overnight in Hanoi

After breakfast, depart from Hanoi for Ninh Binh, enjoying views of the rural countryside along the way.

Arrive in Hoa Lu at approximately 10:00 AM and visit the temples of King Dinh and King Le, dating from the 10th century.

After lunch, board a bamboo boat rowed by local people along the Hoang Long River to Tam Coc, known as the Three Caves. Enjoy the scenery of rice fields and limestone mountains, particularly picturesque during the April and September rice seasons.

Return to the harbour and transfer back to Hanoi. Enjoy free time for shopping in the Old Quarter and Dong Xuan Market.

Day 5Day 5: Hanoi – Departure (B)

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, enjoy free time before checking out from the hotel.

At the arranged time, transfer to Noi Bai International Airport for your departure flight home.

Are there any age restrictions for this tour?

We have a minimum age requirement of 18 years old to join the tour. Group members aged 16-17 years old are welcome to join the tour but only with a family member that will act as their guardian whilst on tour. Aside from that, no age requirements at all!
