Experience the highlights of Northern Vietnam on this 5-day journey through Hanoi, Halong Bay and Ninh Binh. The programme combines Hanoi’s historic landmarks and food culture with an overnight cruise among the limestone islands of Lan Ha Bay, followed by the dramatic landscapes of Hoa Lu and Trang An.

Begin in Hanoi with a city tour covering key cultural and historical sights, from Tran Quoc Pagoda and Ba Dinh Square to Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter. Along the way, enjoy local favourites including Pho or Banh Mi, Hanoi-style egg coffee and Cha Ca grilled fish.

Continue to Halong Bay for an overnight cruise through Lan Ha Bay. Enjoy time for kayaking, swimming, a Vietnamese cooking demonstration, sunset views and onboard activities. The journey then takes you to Ninh Binh, where ancient temples, the viewpoint at Mua Cave and a scenic boat ride through Trang An’s cave system complete the experience.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1Day 1: Arrive Hanoi – City Tour (L/D)

Upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, meet your tour guide and transfer to the hotel for check-in. Standard hotel check-in is from 2:00 PM onwards.

Begin your Hanoi city tour, visiting:

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
One Pillar Pagoda
Hanoi Old City Gate
Phung Hung Street (Train Street)
Hoan Kiem Lake and The Huc Bridge
St. Joseph’s Cathedral

Hanoi Old Quarter and the 36 Ancient Streets

During the tour, sample local Hanoi specialities such as Pho or Banh Mi, followed by Hanoi-style egg coffee.

Enjoy free time to shop for souvenirs, handicrafts, coffee and local products. In the evening, have dinner at a local restaurant featuring the well-known Hanoi-style Cha Ca grilled fish. Return to the hotel after dinner.

Day 2Day 2: Hanoi – Halong Bay (B/L/D)

After breakfast, meet the driver at the hotel lobby at approximately 8:30–8:45 AM and travel by limousine van to Tuan Chau Harbour via the Hai Phong expressway.

On arrival at the cruise lounge, enjoy refreshments while luggage is transferred onboard. A speed tender will take you to the main cruise vessel, where you will receive a welcome drink, cruise briefing and safety instructions before checking into your cabin.

After lunch, cruise through the beautiful scenery of Lan Ha Bay.

In the afternoon, visit the Ba Trai Dao area and its natural lagoon. Enjoy kayaking, swimming and sightseeing among the limestone islands. In unfavourable weather conditions, this visit may be replaced with Light Cave for safety reasons.

Return to the cruise for a sunset party and Happy Hour at the bar. Join a cooking demonstration to learn how to prepare a simple Vietnamese dish, then enjoy dinner onboard featuring seafood and Vietnamese cuisine.

Evening activities include squid fishing, karaoke and leisure time onboard.

Day 3Day 3: Tra Bau – Halong Bay – Hanoi (B/L)

Start the morning with a Tai Chi session on the sundeck while enjoying the fresh air and sunrise over Lan Ha Bay.

After breakfast, continue cruising through the bay’s limestone scenery. Visit Tra Bau for free time to kayak, swim or simply admire the peaceful surroundings.

Return to the cabin to prepare for check-out. Enjoy the final cruise through the bay and brunch onboard before disembarking at Tuan Chau Harbour.

Board the limousine van for the return transfer to Hanoi.

Day 4Day 4: Hanoi – Hoa Lu – Trang An Grottoes – Hanoi (B/L/D)

Travel to Ninh Binh Province, approximately 100 km from Hanoi.

On arrival, visit Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Vietnam. Explore the temples dedicated to King Dinh and King Le, two important rulers of the 10th century.

Continue to Mua Cave and climb approximately 500 steps to the top of Mua Mountain. From the summit, enjoy panoramic views over Hoa Lu’s dramatic limestone landscape.

After lunch featuring local cuisine, travel to Trang An Eco-Tourism Complex. Board a small boat and journey through peaceful waterways, limestone cliffs and mysterious cave systems, including Sang Cave, Toi Cave, Ba Giot Cave and Nau Ruou Cave.

In the late afternoon, return to Hanoi. Dinner is arranged at a local restaurant at guests’ own expense, followed by transfer back to the hotel.

Day 5Day 5: Depart Hanoi (B)

Enjoy free time at leisure until the arranged transfer from the hotel to Noi Bai International Airport for your departure flight.

Are there any age restrictions for this tour?

We have a minimum age requirement of 18 years old to join the tour. Group members aged 16-17 years old are welcome to join the tour but only with a family member that will act as their guardian whilst on tour. Aside from that, no age requirements at all!
