Experience Hanoi’s history and Halong Bay’s natural beauty on this 4-day Northern Vietnam itinerary. Enjoy a full-day city tour of the capital’s major cultural landmarks, followed by a day cruise through the emerald waters and limestone formations of Halong Bay.

Discover the Ho Chi Minh Complex, One Pillar Pagoda, Quan Thanh Temple, Tran Quoc Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter. Then travel to Halong Bay for a four-hour cruise, including a visit to either Thien Cung Cave or Sung Sot Cave.

With free time on arrival and before departure, the programme offers an easy balance of guided sightseeing and personal leisure.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1Day 1: Malaysia – Hanoi Arrival

Overnight in Hanoi

Arrive at Noi Bai International Airport and meet the driver for transfer to the hotel.

Standard check-in time is from 2:00 PM. Early check-in is subject to hotel availability and confirmation on arrival. The driver will wait for a maximum of one hour after the arrival flight.

The rest of the day is free for leisure activities or optional tours. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2Day 2: Hanoi Full-Day City Tour (B/L)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Overnight in Hanoi

After breakfast, depart at approximately 8:30 AM for a full-day Hanoi city tour.

Visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Museum, followed by Ho Chi Minh’s stilt house and the One Pillar Pagoda, founded in 1049 by King Ly Thai To.

Continue to Quan Thanh Temple and Tran Quoc Pagoda on West Lake, one of Vietnam’s oldest pagodas.

After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Temple of Literature and Quoc Tu Giam, Vietnam’s first university, constructed in 1070.

Pass Hoan Kiem Lake and visit Ngoc Son Temple. Conclude the day with a coach tour through Hanoi Old Quarter and free time for shopping.

Day 3Day 3: Hanoi – Halong Day Cruise – Hanoi (B/L)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Overnight in Hanoi

After breakfast, depart at approximately 7:30 AM for Halong City. Enjoy the scenic drive of around three and a half hours.

On arrival, enjoy lunch before boarding for a four-hour cruise through Halong Bay. Sail between limestone outcrops and through the bay’s emerald waters.

Visit either Thien Cung Cave or Sung Sot Cave, according to the day’s operating route.

Return to Halong City, then transfer by minibus back to Hanoi. Arrive at approximately 8:30 PM and stay overnight in Hanoi.

Day 4Day 4: Hanoi – Departure (B)

Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast, enjoy free time at leisure before checking out from the hotel.

At the arranged time, transfer to Noi Bai International Airport for your departure flight home.

We have done a private tour going to: HOA LU TEMPLE - MUA CAVE - TRANG AN Miami was our lovely tour guide. Her English was excellent and clear. She hosting us in the perfect possible way. We had a late arrival the day before and left us to rest during the 2,5 hour drive.  Verified Perfect Ninh Binh day with Hai — Hoa Lu, Hang Mua & Trang An
We did a private day tour with Hai covering Hoa Lu, Hang Mua Cave, and Trang An, and it was an excellent day. Hai was punctual, easy to talk to, and very well organized. At Hoa Lu he explained the history of the ancient capital clearly without making it feel like a lecture. At Hang Mua he paced the climb well, gave us time for photos at the viewpoint, and kept the visit comfortable. Trang An was the highlight — the boat ride through the caves and temples was beautiful, and Hai handled the timing and logistics smoothly so we didn’t feel rushed. What stood out most was how personal the day felt. Hai adjusted the schedule to us, made practical suggestions, and was patient and professional from start to finish. If you want to see Hoa Lu, Hang Mua, and Trang An in one day with a reliable private guide, we highly recommend Hai. We would book him again.

Are there any age restrictions for this tour?

We have a minimum age requirement of 18 years old to join the tour. Group members aged 16-17 years old are welcome to join the tour but only with a family member that will act as their guardian whilst on tour. Aside from that, no age requirements at all!

Pease note that most of Halong bay trips are group tours, that means you will share the limousine transport with other guests to save your money but still feel comfortable. If you would like to get the private transfer, please contact us at anytime to get the deal.
