Explore Northern Vietnam’s most memorable landscapes on this 6-day journey through Hanoi, Halong Bay and Sapa. The itinerary combines a scenic overnight cruise among Halong Bay’s limestone islands with a mountain adventure in Sapa, including village walks, rice terraces and encounters with local ethnic communities.

Begin in Hanoi before travelling to Halong Bay for an overnight cruise. Sail past distinctive karst formations, visit Sung Sot Cave and Luon Cave, enjoy kayaking and relax overnight on the bay.

Continue by night train to Lao Cai, then travel to Sapa for guided treks through Cat Cat, Sin Chai, Lao Chai and Ta Van villages. Discover the daily life of Black H’mong and Dzay communities, admire terraced rice fields and experience the peaceful mountain scenery before returning to Hanoi.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1Day 1: Arrive Hanoi

Overnight in Hanoi

Upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, meet the driver and transfer to the hotel for check-in.

Standard check-in time is from 2:00 PM. Early check-in is subject to hotel availability and confirmation on arrival. The driver will wait for a maximum of one hour after the flight arrives.

The rest of the day is free at leisure. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2Day 2: Hanoi – Halong Bay Overnight Cruise (B/L/D)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Overnight on Cruise

After breakfast, transfer to the meeting point and depart from Hanoi for Halong City by modern bus.

Board the junk cruise and enjoy a welcome drink, followed by lunch featuring local seafood. Check into the cabin and begin cruising through Halong Bay, passing distinctive limestone formations including Lion, Tea Pot, Toad and Dau Nguoi Islet.

Visit Sung Sot Cave, also known as Amazing Cave. There will be time for swimming and sunbathing, weather permitting.

Enjoy a sunset dinner in the onboard restaurant before retiring to the cabin for the night.

Day 3Day 3: Halong Bay – Hanoi – Night Train to Sapa (B/L)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Overnight on Night Train

Enjoy breakfast onboard as the cruise heads towards the Natural Preservation Zone.

Take part in kayaking around Luon Cave, then return to the cruise to refresh and prepare for check-out. Luggage can be stored onboard.

Continue cruising through Halong Bay, passing Ba Hang Fishing Village, Dog Islet and other scenic formations. Enjoy lunch onboard before disembarking at Tuan Chau Marina between approximately 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM.

Return to Hanoi and enjoy free time until approximately 9:00 PM, when you board the night train to Lao Cai.

Overnight on the night train in a four-person cabin.

Day 4Day 4: Lao Cai – Cat Cat Village – Sin Chai – Sapa (B/L/D)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner | Overnight in Sapa

Arrive at Lao Cai Station and transfer to Sapa, approximately 38 km away. Enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant.

Begin a walk down into the valley for approximately 5 km. Along the route, observe H’mong villagers working in the rice fields and tending to animals such as chickens, water buffaloes and pot-bellied pigs.

See the old hydroelectric power station built during the French colonial period and take a break at a waterfall.

Continue walking to Sin Chai Village, where you can observe the lifestyle of the Black H’mong people, including their weaving and dyeing traditions.

Return to Sapa Town for an overnight stay.

Day 5Day 5: Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Hanoi (B/L)

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch | Overnight in Hanoi

After breakfast, begin a scenic trek along buffalo paths and trails through hill tribe villages, including Lao Chai and Ta Van.

Meet Black H’mong and Dzay communities and take in views of the valley floor, surrounded by multi-layered rice terraces.

After the trek, transfer by limousine bus back to Hanoi. Arrive at the hotel at approximately 8:00 PM for an overnight stay.

Day 6Day 6: Hanoi – Departure (B)

Meals: Breakfast

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out.

At the arranged time, transfer to Noi Bai International Airport for your departure flight home.

Are there any age restrictions for this tour?

We have a minimum age requirement of 18 years old to join the tour. Group members aged 16-17 years old are welcome to join the tour but only with a family member that will act as their guardian whilst on tour. Aside from that, no age requirements at all!
