Discover the cultural highlights of Hanoi and the mountain landscapes of Sapa on this 5-day Northern Vietnam journey.

Begin in Hanoi with a city tour covering some of the capital’s most recognisable landmarks, including Tran Quoc Pagoda, Ba Dinh Square, Ngoc Son Temple, Hoan Kiem Lake, St. Joseph Cathedral, Hanoi Opera House and the Old Quarter. Along the way, enjoy local Hanoi specialities and traditional Egg Coffee before boarding an overnight sleeper train to Lao Cai.

Continue to Sapa Valley, where you will explore Cat Cat Village, home to the Black H’Mong community, and discover traditional handicrafts, village life and the surrounding mountain scenery. The programme also includes visits to Sapa Town Square, Sapa Church, Sapa Culture Museum and Sapa Market.

One of the main highlights is a full-day experience at Sun World Fansipan Legend, travelling via the Muong Hoa mountain train, cable car and funicular to the peak area of Fansipan. In the afternoon, visit Moana Sapa, known for its mountain views and distinctive photo spots.

After a free morning in Sapa, return to Hanoi for your final overnight stay before departure.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1Day 1: Arrival in Hanoi – Hanoi City Tour – Overnight Train to Lao Cai (L/D)

Upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, meet your appointed local tour guide and proceed directly for lunch.

Enjoy a selection of popular Hanoi dishes at a local restaurant, such as:

Pho – Vietnamese noodle soup with beef or chicken broth
Banh Mi – Vietnamese baguette

After lunch, continue with the Hanoi city tour.

Visit:

Tran Quoc Pagoda
Ba Dinh Square
Ngoc Son Temple
Hoan Kiem Lake
St. Joseph Cathedral
Hanoi Opera House
Hanoi Old Quarter – The 36 Ancient Streets
Hanoi Old City Gate
Hanoi Train Street

During the tour, enjoy a cup of traditional Hanoi-style Egg Coffee.

After sightseeing, proceed to a local restaurant for dinner and enjoy authentic Vietnamese cuisine featuring Cha Ca grilled fish.

Later, transfer to Hanoi Railway Station to board the overnight sleeper train to Lao Cai.

Train check-in: approximately 9:00 PM
Train departure: approximately 10:40 PM
Expected arrival in Lao Cai: approximately 6:25 AM the following morning.

Day 2Day 2: Lao Cai – Sapa Valley – Cat Cat Village – Sapa Town (B/L/D)

The train is scheduled to arrive at Lao Cai Railway Station at approximately 6:25 AM.

Upon arrival, take the shuttle transfer from Lao Cai Railway Station to Sapa Town, a journey of approximately 60 minutes / 30 kilometres.

Arrive in Sapa and have some time to freshen up at the hotel.

Breakfast will be served at a local restaurant, featuring Vietnamese noodles.

After breakfast, meet your appointed guide and begin a walking tour to Cat Cat Village, one of the oldest ethnic villages in the Sapa area and home to the Black H’Mong community.

Walk along the route leading into the village while enjoying the peaceful mountain scenery.

During the visit, experience:

Traditional village landscapes
Local ethnic daily life
Traditional fabric weaving
Local handicrafts
Souvenir shopping
Local food stalls along the village route

After the visit, return to Sapa Valley for lunch at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, continue sightseeing in Sapa Town with visits to:

Sapa Town Square
Sapa Church
Sapa Culture Museum
Sapa Market

After sightseeing, return to the hotel for check-in and time to refresh.

Dinner will be served at a local restaurant before returning to the hotel.

Overnight in Sapa.

Day 3Day 3: Sapa – Sun World Fansipan Legend – Moana Sapa (B/L)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

At approximately 8:00 AM, meet your appointed tour guide and walk towards Sun Plaza Station in Sapa Town.

Board the Muong Hoa mountain train for the journey to Sun World Fansipan Legend Station.

The Fansipan programme includes:

Muong Hoa mountain train
Fansipan cable car
Entrance fees
Funicular ride to the peak area of Fansipan Mountain
Buffet lunch at Van Sam Restaurant

Spend more than four hours exploring the Fansipan complex and enjoying panoramic views across the surrounding mountain landscape.

In the afternoon, continue to Moana Sapa.

Explore its popular photo locations, including:

Infinity Swing
Bali Gate
Golden Hand Sculpture
Viewpoints overlooking the Hoang Lien Son Mountains

After the visit, transfer back to the hotel.

Dinner is at your own arrangement.

Overnight in Sapa.

Day 4Day 4: Sapa Valley – Hanoi (B)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

The morning is free and easy, giving you time to relax or explore Sapa Town at your own pace.

At approximately 2:00 PM, meet your driver and begin the transfer back to Hanoi.

Upon arrival in Hanoi, check in at the hotel.

The remainder of the evening is at leisure.

Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 5Day 5: Hanoi – Departure (B)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.

Spend your remaining time in Hanoi at leisure with self-arranged activities.

At the agreed meeting time, gather for your transfer to Noi Bai International Airport.

Proceed to the airport for your departure flight.

 Verified Miami, SUPER host We have done a private tour going to: HOA LU TEMPLE - MUA CAVE - TRANG AN Miami was our lovely tour guide. Her English was excellent and clear. She hosting us in the perfect possible way. We had a late arrival the day before and left us to rest during the 2,5 hour drive.  Verified Perfect Ninh Binh day with Hai — Hoa Lu, Hang Mua & Trang An We did a private day tour with Hai covering Hoa Lu, Hang Mua Cave, and Trang An, and it was an excellent day. Hai was punctual, easy to talk to, and very well organized. At Hoa Lu he explained the history of the ancient capital clearly without making it feel like a lecture. At Hang Mua he paced the climb well, gave us time for photos at the viewpoint, and kept the visit comfortable. Trang An was the highlight — the boat ride through the caves and temples was beautiful, and Hai handled the timing and logistics smoothly so we didn’t feel rushed. What stood out most was how personal the day felt. Hai adjusted the schedule to us, made practical suggestions, and was patient and professional from start to finish. Are there any age restrictions for this tour?

We have a minimum age requirement of 18 years old to join the tour. Group members aged 16-17 years old are welcome to join the tour but only with a family member that will act as their guardian whilst on tour. Aside from that, no age requirements at all!
