Thanks to Korean Air’s new routes, the southern Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc has suddenly become a popular tourist destination.

Hana Tour, Very Good Travel, and Kyowon Tour Travel Easy, three of Korea’s most prominent tour operators, announced on January 17 a 50% yearly increase in tour bookings, even though the Lunar New Year holidays were shorter than expected (February 9–12).

Holiday international bookings increased by 48% according to Hana Tour, with 57% of that growth occurring in Southeast Asia, 25% in Japan, 6% in Europe, 6% in the South Pacific, and 5% in China.

This highlights a clear preference among customers for locations that are closer together.

In terms of regional breakdown, more than half of the bookings were for trips to Japan and Vietnam, with 27% going to Japan and 25% to Vietnam.

Based on their analysis of holiday booking data, Kyowon Tour Travel Easy has determined that 20.8% of all reservations are from Japan. Vietnam came in second with 11.7% of the market.

Bookings were expected to increase by over 10% by Very Good Travel. With 37.2% of all foreign bookings, Southeast Asia was far and away the leader, followed by Japan with 29.1%, Europe with 11.2%, Oceania with 8.1%, and China with 6.4%.

Based on its data, Siem Reap in Cambodia, Phu Quoc in Vietnam, Taichung in Taiwan, and Matsuyama in Japan are among the newly emerging tourist destinations that are becoming more popular with travelers.

American travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler recognized Phu Quoc island, Vietnam, for the second year in a row, as one of the world’s top islands in 2023. The island is famous for its lengthy beaches with shining white sand surrounded by inviting turquoise waters.

From cheap homes to five-star resorts, Phu Quoc has it all when it comes to cultural and historical experiences.
